About the Author
Yifan Yang studied traditional and modern medicine from 1977 to 1982 at Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and, after graduation, worked there as a teacher and doctor in the Chinese Herbal Formulas Department. Besides teaching and practicing, she completed her Masters degree in Chinese Herbal Medicines and Formulas. In 1990, she moved to the Netherlands and now works there as a Practitioner in Traditional Chinese Medicine in a TCM clinic. She has also lectures on traditional Chinese herbal medicine to doctors and physiotherapists in both the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and Switzerland.

" The "CHINESE HERBAL FORMULAS" by Yifan Yang, is a very valuable book for the learning and the recalling of Chinese Medicine. The book is divided into two parts: in the first part the general principles are exposed, the second part treats the study of syndromes and the choice of herbs in the composition of formulas.
The study of each syndrome is done in an exhaustive way starting from the listing of symptoms and signs, and from the analysis of these ones with reference to the pathologies of Western origin. It follows the suggestion of various groups of herbs to be used as Chief, Deputy, Assistant and Envoy, in order to arrive to a balanced formula for the treatment of the syndrome that the patient shows.

Finally they are given, for each examined syndrome, a few classical formulas able to treat it.

I do consider this book very good, first of all for the teaching exposition of the subject that it treated in a clear and exhaustive way. This book could be taken as the basic text-book in many Schools of Chinese Medicine. I recommend you to buy it. "

The perfect book to make you a better herbalist!

This book is amazing! I found that it filled in many gaps that were missing from my Chinese herbal medicine training. I find it so much more valuable than the Bensky texts because it explains more clearly and in depth the structure of formulas and the herb actions, as well as provides comparisons that I haven't seen anywhere else. I wish I had found both this and the Chinese Herbal Medicines Comparisons and Characteristics book long ago!

About the Author
Cecil Frances Alexander was born in 1818 near Dublin, Ireland. She began writing poetry at the age of nine and went on to write hundreds of poems and hymns. Among her best-known hymns are "All Things Bright and Beautiful," "Once in Royal David's City," and "There is a Green Hill Far Away," all of which appeared in "Hymns for Little Children", published in 1848. She died in 1895 and was remembered as a woman of great kindness and generosity.

20 Magical Creatures Postcards from Harry Potter printed on heavyweight card stock

Once again, Scholastic has released a set of postcards based on a Harry Potter coloring book. In this case, the subject is Magical Creatures – which was the second coloring book in the series. Postcards are inherently a little more difficult to work on as everything is scaled so much smaller than in a book. I've found that if I use small nib gel pens, ultra-fine point markers, and very sharp and hard pencils, I have an easier time getting into all the small and intricate details.

The mix of designs in the postcards are fairly good for my taste. I enjoy coloring the small details and should enjoy coloring these to give to all the Harry Potter fans in my family. I will probably mount these on folded cards and either frame them or give them as cards versus sending them through the mail as postcards. That is my personal preference but these should hold up well as postcards in use provided you use waterproof medium so that rain and moisture won't cause havoc with your coloring.

Here is a brief overview of what I found in this set of postcards:

Printed on one side of heavy weight, slick, white card stock

Address and stamp areas are defined and printed on the back of the card

Postcards are glue bound but can easily be removed from the booklet without design loss

Alcohol and water-based markers, India ink and gel pens do not bleed through the card stock.

Gel pens take a much longer time to dry than usual.

Colored pencils are mixed. I can get fairly good color from both oil and water based pencils but layering and blending don't work as well (probably due to the very slick surface of the card.)

This Set is a Class Act!

These are officially licensed images and do a good job of capturing creatures that we know and love. People appear in a few of them, and they aren't quite as nicely rendered, but it's a minor quibble.

Some of the images have very fine detail, others give you more leeway.

I've scanned all 20 postcards, 2 at a time, but I don't know if they'll let me post 10 photos. These are the images you'll receive: dementors, Crookshanks & extendable ears, pixies, Fawkes, mermen (twice, a group shot and a close-up), Hedwig with books, Aragog, Buckbeak, Dumbledore & Harry with the baby Fawkes, Harry & the horntail, Harry & Ron & Hermione on Buckbeak, Fenrir Greyback, Firenze & companion, Errol, Dobby, Fluffy, Voldemort & Nagini, a thestral and a snake eye.

The postcards are lightly gummed into a book. I am able to easily take a postcard out from the middle of the book. There was no gum residue and the postcards came out cleanly.

Each postcard is 6 7/16 x 4 11/16, a little larger than the standard sight-seeing card. The cardstock is a little thicker, too.

Overall, this set is a class act. I already have a couple Harry Potter fans in mind for receiving these.

So I bought this for my children because they love Harry Potter

So I bought this for my children because they love Harry Potter. Then when it arrives, I find myself looking through it and I decided the owl in it would make for a great tattoo. So, I am seriously considering taking a page from this book to our local tattoo artist and having his tattoo the owl from it on me. That should attest to the artwork in this book. On the plus side, my family is super stoked to color it. Who knows, I might ever give it a try.
I paid retail price for this and I can recommend this to others.

Quite basic, not a lot of Econ

I am taking a Masters level Health Econ course and this book is way too basic for my purpose. It would be good for a beginner learning about the Healthcare system and issues to be aware of but not in depth econometrics. It would work for early undergrad or even honors High School courses. Also, I feel it is not as objective as it should be, though I can't really give an example. After reading several chapters, I just get a certain biased vibe.

I'm not impressed. I've had a lot of textbooks and the material is over elaborated. It is almost like the chapters are elaborated more than necessary to make the book longer. It also is very opinionated and it feels like the author just wanted to be done with it.

How can anyone write a review about a textbook? You buy them to read for your class so that you can answer your discussion board smartly.

No matter what situation you are going through in life. Mike's words hit everything right on the head. I wish this book was out when I was younger but glad his words can speak to our generations now. No matter how old you are this is a book for all ages men and women

Life Changing

This book is phenomenal and life changing, despite the slew of grammatical errors. Its focus is Philadelphia, the ghetto, abusive relationships, survival and finding Mr. or Mrs. Right. It is a book of redemption, enlightenment, and forgiveness. Reid is astounding.

This is an amazing read. I've had the pleasure of seeing the author in person and later purchased a copy for both my sister and myself. Beautiful words and an encouraging message. Definitely worth the money spent.
